I live in Vancouver WA and took a drive to Cascade Locks today for lunch at East Winds. I got this double bacon cheeseburger. I don't know if it was because winter and cold or what. But it was really really good, it seamed better than usual.
Great little drive-in on your way back to Portland, gave me a vintage ambiance. The server was so patient with my husband, everything looks so good, He had a hard time deciding! The burger and milkshake were so good and you can tell they used fresh ingredients in their food
This drive in / walk up is busier now, since it was featured in Cheryl Strayed's book Wild, and then the movie as well. But unlike other restaurants that start to fail in quality after getting (even more) popular, East Wind is still just as good. Your ice cream orders come out fast, so if you are ordering more than you can carry, bring a friend to the window to help you. To be clear, I have never seen this place NOT busy. No matter the time of year. I will add an extra 30 minutes or more to my drive home just to hit this place up. It might be heavily seasoned with nostalgia, but this ultra casual walk up/ drive in is the perfect place to stop and sit outside to eat on the way home from a fishing or camping trip.
After driving past East Wind Drive-In in Cascade Locks dozens of times, I finally decided to check out their flavor burst ice cream that is getting lots of attention on social media. Although it was a rainy and gray afternoon, this ice cream cone brightened my day! The drive-in is charming and unpretentious, with that roadside Americana vibe that is always so inviting. I was in the mood for their flavor burst ice cream cone that has a spiral of flavor injected into the soft serve as it fills the cone. It looks beautiful and tastes delicious! Be warned, though, the medium cone is more than enough! I think the large cone may be 12 inches tall, or more! The service was quick and friendly, and the staff came out to say hello to my pug. Do yourself a favor and check out East Wind Drive-In next time you pass through Cascade Locks. This place is a gem!
Mmm...these french fries are GOOD. Burger was also great, Lolo liked her fish sandwich. Will be back for the banana split.
While in Cascade Locks, I noticed a semi-long line at East Wind Drive-In and decided to stop for some ice cream on a warm day. The wait wasn't too bad, as most customers were ordering ice cream swirls from the window, which we did as well. We got a medium-sized vanilla with cherry swirls to share. I didn't realize how big a medium would be--it's huge! If I go back, I'd rather we each get a small so we can enjoy our own swirl flavors. Overall, it's a great treat on a warm, sunny day.
Good golly, what a find! No joke it's probably some of, if not THE most, creamy soft serve and I like soft serve. Order carefully though, portions are generous and shareable. I didn't try the food because it was kind of between meal times but it had the right vibes for some good old classic drive in food. Looked great, smelled amazing and the drive through line did not quit. I'll be planning my next roadtrip so that meal time happens here. And ice cream!
One of the best drive in / walk up restaurants in Cascade locks. I went to visit Skamania lodge across the bridges of the gods and was looking for some good food. This bar far is one of my favorites every time I come up here! Great prices, good food, amazing view! The workers here are great in recommending some of their best food. My favorites are the salmon burger, fried mushrooms, with a shake to go!
We came here for the iconic soft serve ice cream. The portions were good and the flavor bursts were such a fun touch to the experience. I got the strawberry flavor burst soft serve, and I loved it ! I can't speak for the food, but the ice cream alone makes this place worth checking out, especially after a hot and tiring day out in the Gorge.
A must visit on a road trip or hot day and near Cascade Locks. We were going to the Bonneville Dam which is nearby and stopped here for ice cream cones as breakfast. Lots of different flavors, I had the medium black cherry, I am afraid to see what the large is like! There is a small park area next door and can take a short walk, or make the short drive down to the dam.
